Understanding the Role of Enterprise Architecture in Driving Sustainability and Responsible AI under CIO/CTO Leadership

As organizations navigate an increasingly complex landscape of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) expectations, IT leaders are uniquely positioned to operationalize sustainability and Responsible AI principles through enterprise technology. This survey explores how Enterprise Architecture (EA) competencies are being leveraged to support sustainable IT strategies and ethical AI practices under the direction of CIOs and CTOs.
The goal of this research is to assess the current maturity, involvement, and capabilities of enterprise architects in shaping and enabling ESG-aligned initiatives. By gathering insights across multiple dimensions—including technology adoption, governance models, architectural artifacts, vendor evaluation, and Architecture Review Board (ARB) integration—the survey aims to identify best practices, capability gaps, and strategic trends in the alignment of EA with sustainability and Responsible AI.
Participants will help uncover how architectural teams are supporting goals such as carbon reduction, circular economy adoption, AI governance, and sustainable design patterns. The findings will inform a broader industry effort to accelerate value-driven, responsible innovation while embedding sustainability into the core of enterprise technology strategy.
Your input will contribute to shaping a forward-looking view of the architecture function’s evolving role—and provide valuable benchmarking data to guide future strategy, investment, and capability development. Participants may also opt to engage in follow-up research focused on defining maturity metrics and performance indicators for sustainable and ethical IT practices.
